Overcoming Being Unknown
How to Build Your Brand and Your Power Online
Stop chasing fame
Have you ever had this thought?
It would be so much easier to accomplish my dreams if I had more power and influence??
That might be true but…
You don’t have power and influence right now. So what’s the purpose in worrying about it??
The problem with modern culture is that it encourages all of us to worry about everything under the sun. Therefore it seems like society wants us all to feel anxious all the time.
So here’s how we are going to overcome the problem of being unknown.
First step
Overcoming Anxiety
One of the biggest obstacles most people face is dealing with anxiety.
The What if scenario???
So that’s the first step. If you want to overcome being unknown, you need to stop thinking about what if you were more well known?
Who cares about “what if?”
That’s not who you are—right now.
And you want to be authentic. So be authentic.
Think about this question instead.
Who are you?
The answer is, “you are someone who is unknown right now.”
And that’s a good thing. That’s right, that works in your favor. And here’s how?
You are the underdog. And who doesn’t love an underdog story??
That’s right, you are the “unknown” person who is going to be the next overnight success. But here’s the truth. You know that becoming an “overnight success” takes years of preparation and hard work.
So for right now—that’s what you should focus on.
Prepare yourself now for the future success you are creating.
And start taking ADVANTAGE of being unknown.
What you need to realize is that success has two parts:
It’s part mindset—and if you have the right mindset, then you can achieve anything you want to achieve
It’s part effort and preparation—and if you do all the right things, you will be ready to seize the moment, when it comes to you. And it will come.
Step two
If you want to overcome being unknown, think about why the people you admire became more well-known.
But here’s the problem I want you to realize.
Don’t compare yourself to people who are not in your field or your niche. If you want to become well-known in the pet-care field, then don’t compare yourself to a TV or Film actor.
So here’s the first thing you should do. Figure out your category and your niche.
Identify the people that are the most known in that space
Analyze why those people are so well known
Once you understand the market—then you have one more choice to make.
Do you want to be a copy cat?
Do you want to be unique and do your own thing?
If you decide to copy what the most successful people are doing—there’s nothing wrong with it, but just make sure you’re not stealing word-for-word scripts. Everyone copies everyone else—so if you’re going to copy someone else—make it a tribute to them for their success.
On the other hand, if you want to look at what the most successful people are doing and make it one step better—then more power to you.
Just remember to be real and be authentic.
Step three
Overcome Fear
Did you know that 9 out of 10 people who read this newsletter will quit on their dreams before they even finish reading the entire newsletter. And if you’re wondering why people would subscribe to a newsletter and then decide to quit?
Here’s the answer.
FEAR!!
I have worked with tens of thousands of people in my career. For 20 years, I worked with students as young as 4 and as old as 21. And then I also ran a Teacher Development Program, where I coached and mentored almost 5,000 teachers. And I am now a performance coach/consultant for schools and businesses and I work with small business owners, entrepreneurs and CEOs.
Most people live in constant fear.
And if you allow that fear to overtake your mind—then it starts to affect your self-confidence and it also leads to more self-doubt.
If you want to overcome this obstacle—you need to acknowledge that fear is the enemy—and nothing else.
But here’s the good news!!
Yes there is good news, once you recognize that “FEAR” is the problem.
You have a golden opportunity on your hands.
If you’re a long time follower of mine on social media then you have heard me talk about the Pareto Principle before. If you haven’t heard this mathematical theory before, here’s the quick version.
Back in 1907, Vilfredo Pareto wanted to study all of the “developed nations” in the world, so he could better understand how wealth was distributed. When he finished his study, he discovered that 80% of all wealth in the richest countries in the world was controlled by only 20% of the population.
Now fast forward to the 21st century, and Pareto’s theory has been used in studying human behavior. In fact, psychologists have been studying thousands of people in different conditions, in order to see if people behave the same way as money.
And guess what? The answer is the same.
This theory is known as the 80/20 rule, and what it states is that 80% of all work and productivity will always be done by only 20% of the people in any group.
So here’s what I want you to think about.
Think back to when you were in school and the teacher paired students up into a group project. Now think back to what happened in that group. Did everyone in the group do the same amount of work or did some kids do all the work and others do practically nothing?
But this doesn’t just happen in school, it happens at work too. So do me a favor and think about where you work.
Are there people at work, who seem to always be busy and stressed out, meanwhile there are some people who don’t ever seem to do anything all day? Are there people who just socialize and goof off and yet they collect a paycheck just the same?
If you didn’t understand why some people can get away with doing nothing—its because of the 80/20 rule. That’s right—80% of people can slack off because the top 20% of people who work for the company—do the majority of the work.
So here’s the opportunity for you!
When you want to overcome being unknown—you are entering into a larger pool of people fighting for attention online and on social media. Well, guess what? Only 20% of people on social media create all the content for everyone else.
That means—you have to make a choice.
Do you want to be in the 20% of content creators?
Or do you want to be in the 80% of content consumers?
Fear can only stop you, when you’re not aware of everything that is happening around you. But you’re subscribed to this newsletter, which means—you are learning the whole truth about reality.
These are the most important academic concepts that you need to know —and unfortunately you were never taught them in school.
Which leads me to the last question:
What are you going to do with all this new knowledge?
Let’s Recap
As a subscriber to this newsletter, you are learning the truth about the world around you.
And once you know the truth, there is nothing that can stop you. Just like knowing there is only one difference between you and the people you admire. And the difference is that those people never gave up on their dreams.
Therefore if you want to overcome the obstacle of being unknown and start building your brand or your empire—then you need to stop listening to the fear and self-doubt in your mind and start chasing after your dreams.
This newsletter’s title is “Overcoming Being Unknown” and we went through three steps to help you overcome that obstacle. So let’s recap:
If you want to overcome being unknown, you first need to stop worrying about not having a following or brand. Society wants you to lean into the anxiety of “what you don’t have” so you have less energy to build your wealth. But you’re smarter than that now—so you’re going to ignore the anxiety and focus on building.
The second step to becoming more well-known is understanding why some people are well-known in your space. What do they do and how can you apply that success to your business or brand? Remember, you have a choice to make a) do you want to be a copy cat b) do you want to take what they do and make it one step better
And lastly, if you want to become more well known, you need to stop allowing fear to run your life. You might not realize how much fear consumes your brain, but the truth is there is no reason why you can’t follow your dreams. So stop allowing other people to tell you what you can and cannot do. This is your life—and you have the power to decide how you want to live it.
And don’t forget you are the “underdog” in your story.
The School Doc’s Underdog Story
It’s taken me three and a half years to get to this point. And if you just found me and started to look at everything I’ve done and built—you might assume that I always had the following I have.
But that’s not the truth.
The truth is I started from zero. That’s right, I started from scratch in 2020.
Stop worrying about “what you don’t have” and start focusing on what you can build.
Because the truth is I’m not done. In fact, I haven’t even yet to begin my real journey and my mission in life. I’m here to fix the K12 system. And when I tell people that mission—they don’t know how to react.
Of course they applaud me, but they don’t know if I’m serious or not. But the truth is that I’m dead serious.
And this is the last point I want to leave you with this week.
Be real. Be authentic and stop allowing fear to control your life.
Most people believe my mission is a noble one. If you have kids in the K12 system, would you want me to teach them all the secrets of the 21st century? Or do you want them to waste a lot of time and go through drama and headaches in school that are pointless and unnecessary?
Even though you think what I want to do is a good cause—I have created enemies online and on social media. And that’s because when I expose the truth and I transform our schools into 21st century learning environments—some people will be out of work.
And that’s the point.
The people who are my enemies—live in constant fear.
They fear change. They fear the truth. They fear the unknown.
You name it—they are AFRAID of it.
Is that how you want to live your life, in constant FEAR?
I want you to be successful. I want your kids to be successful. And if you follow my advice—then you will be able to overcome all the obstacles you currently face and start to see a better future.
It’s not so hard, once you know all the right answers.
